What are you using to clean up after brewing

Post by Mot » 4 years ago

I,m using a mr beer lbm and the instructions say unscented mild hand soap. So I,m using soft soap to clean my keg andbottles. Is this enough to clean? I use the sanitizer they supply when it comes time to prep my keg and utensil, bottles etc

I use PBW, I think most do. If you're going to use soap, make sure to rinse the living hell outta it. Any left over soap residue will destroy your beers foam...

I use OxyClean Free for 95% of my cleaning tasks. I only break out the PBW in those rare instances where OxyClean Free isn't tough enough. Note that you want the OxyClean Free, as the regular OxyClean contains perfumes.

I mix up one scoop per 5 gallon bucket of hot water. I wash my equipment as soon after use as possible. Anything stuck on, I just let it soak for 24 hours and it usually comes right off. If not, I bring out the PBW.

I use oxyclean and star-san. Every half year I will do a full disinfect on my bottles and some non-stainless equipment with a diluted bleach solution & full rinse.

+1 to PBW, I you find it too expensive go for the unscented Oxiclean. I use PBW in all SS equipment and unscented dish soap on all plastic equipment.
I make 5 Gals of starsan with Distilled water and fill a bucket to save it. That normally last me 5+ brews.
Cheers!!

I try not to let my equipment sit uncleaned. I clean it as soon as I can. I rinse most of my stuff with plain water and let air dry. However, you do need to use PBW or oxiclean to get stubborn stains off. White or blue scrubbie pads for stainless steel.

Star San is a no-rinse santizer. Most of the online HB stores in the GTA sell it.
