Robobrew V3 inside rust

Post by Patrickivan »

Well. I did a hot water cleaning last week. Dried it. This week I open it to brew and see rust spots all over the bottom.

Done on the weekend.

But the damage is done, and this is a brand new pot. I've never seen this on any SS this new. 2 years of preventive artifact conservation studies, and I'm calling horses**t on this kettle. And horses**t on OBK's response that it's not warranty related.

And for a proper "repair", especially with the rust inside the bead seal, part of the process would require a nitric acid bath.

This is all indicative of higher than normal impurities in what is a low grade SS to start with.

This is going to be an issue for the life of this pot and it pisses me off. The extra work I'm going to have to do to maintain it beyond normal maintenance, pretty much just f*****d me of the convenience of having this system.

I even contacted Kegland (or whatever they're called) in Australia, and they said it was highly unusual for this to happen, and to take it up with OBK.

Looks like Kegland is shuffling you off to OBK. Have you tried Barkeepers Friend?

I just got some. Removed what I could visibly see. Encouraged oxidation before, and again after my brew.

We'll see in a few days if the corrosion comes back. If I didn't get rid of it all....
