Dry Extract question

Most of my brewing so far has been with LE, but the last one I made had DE as well. I ran into the problem of the DE clumping up on the package (because of the steam from the water) when I was adding it to the boil.

Is there a way to help avoid this problem in the future?

When I was using dry malt extracts, I remember running into the same issue. The easiest solution is to simply rinse the bag/container with some of the hot wort. It's a little easier to use a more rigid container than just a plastic bag IMO.

Yup I agree with Tastyfish, just rinse with a cup of wort using a rigid container (bowl, whatever).

Agree with the comments above. The other alternative is to pour the contents into a measuring bowl prior to use. The extract is added to boiling water so no worries about disinfecting the bowl as long as it is clean. cheers

Like Greedy Dragon, I measure out my DME into a stainless steel bowl while weighing it, then just keep it there until it's time to add it to the boil. No issues with it sticking, and if so, it's stainless steel, so I can just (carefully) dunk it in the boiling wort to rinse it off. Of course, clean the bowl right away, as that stuff is STICKY.
