Tea Bag Tasting IPA
Tea Bag Tasting IPA
My latest IPA has a very harsh after taste. I used this water profile for the first time.
CA - 112
MG - 18
NA - 11
S04 - 275
CI - 51
My crush was fine and I sparged like always do and have done for many years. I assume the sulphate level is too high, at least for my tastes. If it is the sulphate, what is an acceptable amount? I am thinking on going down to 150 to 180.

This could be just carb bite. Not totally sure about it, but I may of over carbed it a bit.

Could it be hop astringency? Sometimes you'll get a harsh/drying almost vegital note in beers with a lot of hops

Yea, that is what I am thinking. It is still harsh tasting. Changed the recipe for next time.

Re: Tea Bag Tasting IPA
I'd be interested to know how the changed recipie turned out as I just posted a question on this except I called in a Tanin after taste. I get this quite regularly with some of my brews, not just IPAs
Re: Tea Bag Tasting IPA
I will be kegging my current IPA soon and will give an update on the taste as I changed the hop schedule and the amount of hops.
Re: Tea Bag Tasting IPA
My IPA beers seem to be fine since this post. I haven't done anything different though. Still using lots of "C" hops as usual. I did stop using a big 60 minute addition and started adding hops at the 30 minute mark. Then again, you have to use more hops.
